Midnight Cyan

Before the Telepod

Systems & preparation

Choose a battle pace, understand positional Techs, and prepare for version differences before the route opens.

Battle flow

  • Active vs. Wait: Active lets enemies continue while command menus are open; Wait pauses time while choosing from Tech or Item submenus. New players can safely choose Wait.
  • Position matters: combatants move automatically. Circular, line, and nearby-area Techs can hit several targets when enemies align.
  • Tech economy: single Techs consume one character's MP; dual and triple Techs consume MP from every participant.
  • Running: most ordinary encounters permit escape; bosses generally do not.

Saving and recovery

Use save points inside dungeons and the world map where the edition permits it. Shelters fully restore the active party at a save point. Modern Steam/mobile editions also include autosave, but manual saves remain the dependable checkpoint before bosses and route decisions.

Magic and Techs

At the End of Time, circle Spekkio's room three times clockwise and speak to him. Crono, Marle, Lucca, and Frog then gain elemental magic access; Robo's laser attacks are Shadow-type without being magic, and Ayla predates magic. Tech Points from combat unlock each character's Tech ladder. Put characters together in battle after prerequisites are learned to reveal their dual or triple combinations.

Practical party planning

  • Carry at least one healer or a stock of Potions/Mid-Potions and Athenian Waters/Revives.
  • Test enemy reactions: some bosses counter the element or body part you strike, while others require a specific element to lower defense.
  • Use Ayla's Charm on bosses and rare enemies once learned; several best-in-slot items are limited steals.
  • Keep status protection and elemental absorption gear. Raw defense is not always the best endgame choice.
  • New Game+ carries most character progression and inventory forward, but key story items must be reacquired.
